Things to Do Along Greys River

a body of water surrounded by trees

Greys River is a Snake River tributary, the latter of which flows through Western Wyoming, near to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. It is a popular destination for locals in the area who enjoy hiking and picnicking as well as whitewater rafting.

A gushing mountain stream, Greys River represents some of the prettiest landscapes in all of Wyoming – indeed, in all of the West. It symbolizes the backcountry solitude and freedom that pioneers loved so much, and will give you a little taste of the land as it was in the time of the Indians before Europeans came at all.

Ready for a lush escape? Here are our favorite things to do along Greys River.

Hiking

The Greys River cuts a beautiful swath through the Bridger-Teton National Forest. There are several trails in the area along what’s known as the Greys River Corridor, all of which provide epic scenery and many of which provide river views. You can also take horses on those trails.

Picnicking

Picnic lover? Get your fill along Greys River, which has several spots perfect for picnicking. Murphy Creek Campground is one of our faves!

Rafting

Nothing thrills quite like a wild ride down the rapids, and the Greys River has some famously awesome whitewater. The put-in is close to Jackson, and you can take both kayaks and rafts down the river. Go yourself if you’re a pro, or sign up for a guided tour instead!

Looking for an adventure on the nearby Snake River instead? Try Mad River Boat Trips, where you can get all the whitewater thrills you want, or choose a quieter scenic float instead – perfect for little ones or more sedate folks.
